Commercial Bank of Ceylon has been named ‘Best Bank in Sri Lanka’ and ‘Best ESG Bank in Sri Lanka’ at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2026, recognising its financial performance and integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles into its business strategy.

Euromoney highlighted the Bank’s strong performance during Sri Lanka’s economic recovery, with 2025 profit before tax exceeding Rs.89.38 billion, assets reaching Rs.3.26 trillion, and return on equity at 19.5%. Loans surpassed Rs.2.028 trillion while assets grew 16.8%.

The Bank also became the first Sri Lankan bank to exceed US$1 billion in market capitalisation, while strengthening its digital capabilities through the introduction of Google Pay and AI-powered SME credit underwriting. Its international expansion included the opening of a representative office at Dubai International Financial Centre.

The ESG award recognised Commercial Bank’s initiatives in green finance, financial inclusion and sustainable development. Its Rs.15 billion Green Bond, the largest issued in Sri Lanka, supports renewable energy, green buildings and sustainable transport projects.

The Bank has also maintained a strong focus on SMEs, accounting for around 20% of the market’s SME lending and disbursing more than Rs.335 billion to the sector in 2025. Agency banking, mobile services and targeted lending programmes have expanded access to finance among underserved communities.

Its women-focused ‘Anagi’ programme, financial literacy initiatives and environmental projects have further strengthened its ESG profile. The Bank’s ‘Trees for Tomorrow’ programme alone planted more than 12,500 trees in 2025.

The Euromoney awards, established more than three decades ago, recognise achievements in banking leadership, innovation, performance and strategic vision.

Commercial Bank, which operates more than 270 branches in Sri Lanka, also has an international presence in Bangladesh, Maldives, Myanmar and Dubai.
