Commercial Bank of Ceylon has partnered with SolarRay Energy (Pvt) Ltd. to expand access to affordable financing for solar energy solutions, enabling employed and self-employed customers to obtain preferential funding for the purchase and installation of solar systems.

The partnership was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organisations, as part of Commercial Bank’s continuing efforts to promote sustainable financing and encourage the adoption of environmentally responsible energy solutions.

The signing ceremony was attended by SolarRay Energy Managing Director Chamil Suranga Silva and senior officials of the company, and W. D. Jayasuriya, Chief Manager of the Retail Products Department of Commercial Bank, together with senior officials of the Bank.

Under the partnership, customers of SolarRay Energy will be able to access Commercial Bank’s Green Loans and Green Leases at preferential interest rates to finance solar energy systems. Repayment periods of up to five years will be available, with the promotional rates and associated benefits offered until 3 August 2027.

The collaboration is expected to make solar energy more accessible to households, self-employed individuals and businesses seeking to reduce their dependence on conventional energy sources while investing in sustainable alternatives.

SolarRay Energy will provide customers with a comprehensive range of services, including engineering solutions at the interface between power assets and utility networks, feasibility studies, Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) advisory services, and operation and maintenance support aimed at ensuring optimal system performance.

Customers will also receive warranty coverage on key equipment, including a 12-year limited product warranty and a 25-year limited power output warranty on TRINA Solar crystalline photovoltaic modules, as well as a 10-year limited product warranty on SOLIS three-phase on-grid inverters.

Founded in 2016 by Managing Director Chamil Silva and Executive Director Waruni Ranawaka, SolarRay Energy has developed from a traditional solar installation company into a renewable energy, electrical engineering and project management enterprise serving Sri Lanka’s residential, commercial, industrial and utility sectors.

The company provides end-to-end capabilities spanning site assessments, grid-interface engineering and EPCM advisory services, and is expanding into next-generation Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and intelligent energy-management solutions.

With an emphasis on engineering quality, safety, grid compliance and long-term lifecycle performance, SolarRay Energy focuses on delivering integrated energy solutions tailored to individual households as well as more complex commercial and industrial operations.

The partnership adds to Commercial Bank’s portfolio of sustainable financing initiatives and reflects its broader strategy of supporting the transition towards greener technologies. By combining preferential financing with specialised technical and engineering expertise, the collaboration is expected to lower some of the financial barriers to the adoption of solar power among Sri Lankan consumers and businesses.

Commercial Bank, the largest private sector lender in Sri Lanka, continues to strengthen its position in sustainable finance while expanding its domestic and international operations. The Bank was the first Sri Lankan bank to achieve a market capitalisation exceeding US$1 billion and was ranked the No. 1 Sri Lankan bank in the 2026 edition of The Banker magazine’s Top 1000 World Banks ranking.

With more than 270 branches across the country and an extensive network of automated banking facilities, Commercial Bank also has the widest international footprint among Sri Lankan banks, with operations in Bangladesh, the Maldives and Myanmar, as well as a representative office at the Dubai International Financial Centre. Its subsidiaries, CBC Finance PLC and Commercial Insurance Brokers (Pvt) Ltd., further extend the Group’s range of financial services.
