Hambantota International Port (HIP) received LPG vessel ANDOVER on 4th April,
which discharged approximately 7,000 metric tonnes (MT) of liquefied petroleum gas
consigned to Laugfs Gas. The consignment, marking the port’s first gas shipment of
2026, is sufficient to supply an estimated 570,000 domestic households.
The LPG tanker, which arrived from Argentina, carrying the first gas consignment
handled by HIP since December last year, reinforces the port’s role in supporting Sri
Lanka’s household energy supply chain.
The discharge operation was carried out with HIP’s standard operational efficiency,
ensuring the timely transfer of cargo into the domestic distribution network. General
Manager of HIPG’s ENS Department, Yongzhuang Li said that the arrival of the
ANDOVER reflects the port’s readiness to facilitate strategic cargo flows.
“This
shipment demonstrates HIP’s capability to handle vital energy supplies efficiently while
supporting national demand. As a port located just 10 nautical miles from the main
East–West shipping lane, we are well positioned to ensure continuity in supply chains,”
he added.
