Winning streak seals the week in style with a 2.2% gain

The Colombo Stock Exchange extended its positive momentum from the previous session, with the ASPI posting strong gains despite somewhat subdued investor participation compared to earlier in the week.





The ASPI closed in the green, advancing 88 points to end the session at 19,468. The index saw intra-day volatility, briefly dipping into negative territory before regaining ground and building upward momentum, supported by notable positive contributions from CFIN, CTHR, DFCC, BUKI, and MELS.



Daily turnover reached LKR 4.2Bn, marking a 41% decline compared to the monthly average of LKR 7.2Bn. The Capital Goods sector led in terms of turnover, accounting for 20%, followed by the Diversified Financials, and Food, Beverage and Tobacco sectors, which collectively accounted for 34%. Foreign investors remained net buyers with a net inflow of 2.6Mn.





Mixed sentiment persists in secondary market amid moderate volumes



The secondary market continued to exhibit mixed activity, with moderate volumes and limited significant trades, extending the quiet sentiment observed in recent sessions. Activity was concentrated on the shorter end of the yield curve, with 15.02.2028, 15.03.2028, 01.07.2028, and 15.10.2028 trading in the 8.80%–9.04% range. Further along the curve, the 15.10.2029 maturity traded at 9.48%, while the 15.10.2030 changed hands at 9.80%. In the forex market, the LKR depreciated marginally against the greenback, closing at LKR 301.83/USD, compared to the previously seen rate of LKR 301.77/USD. Meanwhile, overnight liquidity in the banking system expanded to LKR 93.9Bn from the previously seen level of LKR 86.2Bn.
