Aura Lanka Herbals (Pvt.) Ltd. will receive 66 acres of land on a 30-year lease from the government s under the Crown Lands Ordinance.
A Cabinet paper jointly submitted by the Finance minister and Land Minister for this paper was approved at the last Cabinet meeting.
The land will be used construct and maintain the factory and operating office premises and also the storage and operational purposes of their project 'Dry Zone Rural Economic Development Aloe Vera Project'.
According to the Cabinet Paper the project intends to kickstart a Herbal Medicine manufacturing industry from the Aloe Vera plant for export under the organic farming system in the Anuradhapura District.
Under this project, Aloe Vera roots, tubers, gel and external parts of leaves are expected to be used to make high-energy drinks, pills, ointments, inhalers and hair oils.
The total investment of the project is USD 783 million with USD 300 million to be invested as Capital Investment.
It is expected to set up nurseries for the production of Aloe Veraseedlings in 2,000 acres in Rajanganaya and Nochchiyagama Divisional Secretariat Divisions. In addition, 102,000 acres in Anuradhapura District will be used for the cultivation of Aloe Vera using plants produced by those nurseries.
The project will involve families who own land on grants and licenses and families who enjoy government lands for cultivation.
Chaired by Dr. Viranjith Thambugala, Aura Lanka comprises nine business groups covering mineral resources, automotive & mobility, Medicine industry, Security industry, and urban development.
