Kia Motors Lanka has introduced the all-new Kia Tasman to the Sri Lankan market, marking the brand’s first entry into the pickup truck segment and signalling a push to redefine the double cab category.
Developed from the ground up, the Tasman combines off-road capability with everyday comfort, aiming to bridge the gap between utility and passenger vehicle refinement. The model is built on a new body-on-frame platform and offers a payload capacity of up to 1,151kg and a towing capacity of up to 3,500kg.
Kia Motors Lanka Chairman Mahen Thambiah described the launch as a milestone for both the company and the local automotive sector, noting that the vehicle is designed to deliver durability, capability and comfort in equal measure.
The pickup is equipped with advanced four-wheel-drive systems, including a two-speed Active Transfer Case, Electronic Locking Differential and multiple terrain modes to enhance performance across challenging conditions. It also features a ground clearance of up to 252mm and a water wading depth of 800mm.
Powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the Tasman produces 210PS and 441Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.4 seconds.
Inside, the model offers a more premium cabin experience than typical pickups, with a panoramic display integrating dual 12.3-inch screens, a Harman Kardon sound system and segment-first sliding and reclining rear seats.
Kia said the Tasman’s design reflects extensive global testing across extreme terrains and emphasises both durability and practicality, with a cargo bed featuring integrated lighting, tie-down systems and onboard power capability.
The launch builds on Kia’s established presence in Sri Lanka, where models such as the Kia Sorento have gained popularity. With the Tasman, the company aims to expand its footprint in a segment traditionally focused on strength and utility, introducing higher levels of technology and refinement.
Kia Motors Lanka offers a five-year or 150,000km warranty on its internal combustion engine vehicles, underscoring confidence in the durability and reliability of its lineup.
